What Happened?
I went to a funeral for my Moms best friend with the thoughts of the life long friendship that was very special, as a witness to friendship I thought that one day I might be lucky enough to have a friend with such devotion and love for one another. My Mom passed away 8 years earlier as I felt compelled to stand up and recognize this woman whom my Mom shared so much with. Her name is Reba.
I asked her daughter if I could say a few words at the grave site to honor this special bond between these two wonderful women.
As I got up to speak I noticed the headstones of the people who have past, there where Asians, Spanish, Latin, and I’m sure all races were there all around me at the place where this lovely German lady would spend all of eternity with her husband of 68 years.
I think back when we were all born in the nursery at the hospital.
We were all together Whites, Blacks, Asian, Latin and again all races colors and religion’s
Our parent’s hearts were filled with hope and joy, a pride as a father I will never forget. Like a new commitment on being the best parent husband, uncle, Aunt, grand parent to give our family the best chance at life with our guidance nothing can go wrong!
What happened? Kids are not born with prejudice, they are not born to hate others for the color of there skin! Or what about political views?
They weren’t born to hate Republicans or Democrats! The fact that some kids rose up quickly and were good at sports or smarter or lucky enough to go to college they weren’t born to hate success.
It’s a learned thing, we got it from our parents, uncles, Aunts, and even Grandparents with obstacle’s thrown in by the environment and who we hung out with!
Wait a minute remember the commitment we all made as parents to raise our children to be the best they can be!
We all are responsible for what we put into this world the good bad and ugly. I’m writing this to remind us all that we can’t be selfish in our thoughts and the lessons we give our Children and Grandchildren.
We all will one day come together up on that hill together like we were in the hospital in that nursery all races, whites Asian Blacks, Spanish. Waiting for God to take us home.
